Sania Mirza not intimidated by fatwa09 September, 2005
Not in the least intimidated by the comments of some Muslim leaders who had criticised her on-court dress, Sania Mirza said to her critics with a straight face: "I have no comments to make".
Earlier, a Muslim leader had said, "A Muslim woman is allowed to drop the veil on certain occasions but not in the manner in which the girl is going and playing everywhere".
Meanwhile support is pouring from all sides for the teenaged tennis star. Thousands of fans have expressed their solidarity in Sania Mirza and are encouraging her to reach greater heights and bring pride to the nation.
Sania Mirza was also all praise for the US citizens and fellow competitors in the US Open. "There was no such comments as, 'A girl from a third world country is playing the fourth round of a Grand Slam'. I never faced such a situation", she said.
