Maria Sharapova ousts Sania Mirza

Sania Mirza's dream run at the US Open came to an end when top seed Maria Sharapova of Russia beat her in straight sets 6-2 6-1 in the fourth round to secure a place in the quarter-finals.

The match, which lasted for nearly an hour saw Sania Mirza battling against the Russian who was clearly the superior player. The Indian too fought hard to stay in the match by breaking Sharapova's serve once in the first set, but in the end the Russian's big serve and accurate returns proved to be too hot to handle for Sania Mirza.
