Sania Mirza jumps up to 34 in WTA rankings

Teenaged Indian tennis star Sania Mirza jumped up eight places in the WTA rankings to move up to the 34th spot. The latest rankings were released by the WTA on Monday. Sania Mirza's previous career best was 42 which she reached on 29 August, 2005.

The current jump in Sania's ranking is due to her good performance in the US Open where she became the first Indian to reach the fourth round. Sania Mirza went down to top seed Maria Sharapova in the fourth round.

Sania Mirza has been seeded 8th in the Wismilak International tournament which is to be held in Bali, Indonesia. The tournament carries a prize money of USD225,000.00. Later the Indian is also scheduled to play in the Sunfeast Open to be held in Kolkata, India.
