Sania Mirza through to second round of US Open

In her very first appearance in the US Open, India's Sania Mirza overcame Mashona Washington of USA in a keenly contested match in the first round. Sania Mirza triumphed 7-6, 6-7, 6-4 after battling for more than 2 hours.

In the second round, Sania Mirza will be up against Maria Elena Camerin.
