Sania Mirza storms into Japan Open semi finals07 October, 2005
Despite loosing the first set, India's Sania Mirza rallied ahead to beat top seed Vera Zvonareva of Russia 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 in the quarter-finals of the USD170,000 Japan Open being held in Tokyo.
Sania will now face the winner of another quarter-finals match being held between third seed Tatiana Golovin of France and Japan's Ai Sugiyama, seeded fifth. Sania Mirza is seeded eigth in the tournament.
In the doubles event of the same tournament however, Sania and Sahar Peer lost to second seed Gisela Dulko and Maria Kirilenko in the semi-finals. The pair lost 1-6, 4-6.
