Sania Mirza gets Padma Sri award25 January, 2006 Sania Mirza has been awarded the prestigious Padma Sri award on the eve of the Republic day here at the Rashtrapathi Bhavan in New Delhi, India. Sania has been conferred the award in recognition of her contribution to Indian tennis. Sania Mirza is the first Indian to win a WTA tournament. Sania has many firsts to her credit including being the first Indian woman to break into the top-50 WTA rankings. Sania is hoping to break into the top-20 by the year end.
